Distinguished Member of Technical Staff - Motorola Labs – Applications Research Ctr.
Technically managed and led a team of Human Factors (HF) / Human Computer Interaction (HCI) members on usability and user interface design projects.

· Designed and prototyped next generation user interfaces for future products with multimodal interfaces (voice and GUI) including:
° Developed prototype Linux hardware and software for a voice media search application running on set-top boxes.
° Developed multimodal (voice + GUI) applications for Motorola Java phone.
° Developed GUI interface (C/C++, QT) to simulate phone interactions on embedded Linux devices for technology demos and usability testing.
° Developed voice controlled Roomba vacuum cleaner robot demo (hardware/software).
· Led User Experience design and evaluation projects using heuristic/expert evaluations, task analysis, cognitive walkthroughs, etc. on numerous internal and external designs including:
° Conducted the iPhone User Experience study for the Motorola Labs technology organization and CTO.
° Performed extensive usability testing on a security application for mobile devices, which allowed remote video surveillance resulting in numerous usability and design improvements and very successful demonstration to external customers.
° Evaluated and contrasted different voice recognition activation methods, and studied VUI application usability issues on Motorola cell phones.
° Performed competitive analysis on competitor and internal VUI-based phones to monitor features and plot industry direction for embedded speech applications which was used to assist strategy and decision makers.
· Collaborated with researchers in other Motorola Labs and Motorola businesses to research and develop new user interfaces (GUIs & VUIs) for applications on mobile phones and set top boxes.
· Designed and created a custom usability lab which has been used for numerous internal and external studies and by other product group as well.
· Developed automated custom test fixture for end-to-end testing of speech recognition on mobile phones that led to identification and resolution of a significant problem in shipping products.

· Created first ever distributed speech recognition demo system demonstrating multimodal capabilities on a custom Nextel data network delivered on time and within budget.
· Wrote TCP/IP analysis programs to identify packet latency and loss rates on Nextel network with potential to reduce packet loss improving multimodal system recognition rates.
· Developed programs to analyze speech recognition log files for system testing resulting in significant time saving for tuning and system testing cycles.
· Improved speech recognition rates on Motorola voice platforms by over 20% by tuning applications, grammars and acoustic model selections while under intense product schedules.
