Experience and Accomplishments
NORTHROP GRUMMAN CORPORATION / TASC, Inc. – August 1994 to July 2009
Systems Engineer / Manager
Lead Systems Engineer for Tactical Handheld Digital Device (THDD) Program Office, 2005-July 2009
• Led engineering efforts on a family of tactical, wireless, mobile information systems as part of an Army Quick Reaction Capability program, guiding system acquisition efforts from initial specification through Iraqi deployment and sustainment.
• Derived system requirements from both formal and informal user interaction and guided efforts to produce use-cases, design documents, test plans and test procedures on both small modifications and major baseline software overhaul. Credited for a significant maturation of the system engineering methodology on this critical program.
• Provided engineering and technical support and analysis of emerging technologies relating to THDD and similar tactical wireless network communications including mesh (specifically MeshNetworks Enabled Architecture), ad hoc, and mobile network routing, traffic management, and physical deployment.
• Assembled and led a technical team in Iraq to troubleshoot and improve network performance in deployed wartime environment, resulting in an expansion of both coverage area and available data throughput and recognition by company president with the NGC “Guardian of Freedom” award for this effort.
• Expanded company’s effort to include wireless network modeling and software development in order to quickly address system performance issues and provide improved diagnostic tools in theater.
• Tailored and implemented a system engineering process, working with the contractor to identify required mechanisms and expertise and guide implementation, resulting in significant reduction in software problems noted in the field and much higher confidence in the program office.
Systems Engineer for Network and Network Security Systems for Army Space Program Office, 2002-2005
• Developed information flow models across functional and security domains, applying functional data models and implementation of common data elements and shared databases in standard/common/migration systems to the cross-domain networking and data sharing problem in a tactical military IT environment.
• Led design and development of a high-speed formatted data add-on to the Information System Server Environment Guard Cross-Domain Solution that reduced message transfer time from minutes to tenths of a second.
• Designed, built, installed and tested a prototype network infrastructure with various security features including IP filtering and Network Address Translation (NAT)
• Modeled and analyzed terrestrial and radio networks, includ...
