PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Lumbermen's Underwriting Alliance - Boca Raton, Florida
May 2008 to present
Lead .NET Software Development Engineer
I serve as a team lead in developing a large collection of globally distributed Insurance applications necessary to replace functionality currently served by our company mainframe. This suite of tools are written using C#, WPF, WF, .Net 4.0, and SQL Server 2008.
Projects:
Workman’s Compensation policy management subsystem (serving ~60 users)
Property policy management subsystem (serving ~350 users)
Document Management system used to maintain metadata and physical documents used by all subsystems
Perform maintenance and extend the functionality of several existing applications
Wrote an internal bug tracking and feature request system based on Silverlight 4, backed by Java on the Google App Engine
Implemented the company website replacing a series of existing sites in ASP.Net and C#
Clinical Diagnostic Solutions - Plantation, Florida
Feb 2007 to present
Consultant
In my spare time, I work as a consultant with CDS scientists to design, develop, and document a number of in-house FDA compliant applications.
Projects:
Wrote a WPF based data aggregation package that listens processes results streaming out of a large collection of medical instruments. It translates raw data into statistics using user specified rules storing them into SQL Server for analysis. This saves CDS 15 hours a week and completely eliminated very costly user errors. As new instruments are added; data parsing rules, communication protocols, and instrument definitions are configurable by end users requiring no software development effort saving the company $500 or more per instrument
Wrote a WPF based metadata editor that scientists use to mark sample data enabling filtering and sorting during analysis in Excel and SQL Server. This save scientists 2 hours of work per project per week
Wrote an application to automate creation of product documentation cutting the time required by 75 percent
NovaVision - Boca Raton, Florida (company closed)
Dec 2006 to May 2008
Senior Software Development Engineer
Participated with scientists, hardware engineers, and software developers in designing and implementing a globally distributed suite of applications aimed at using neuroplasticity to restore vision to patients suffering from visual field loss. These tools provided therapy to over 3000 patients. I served as a Team Lead and mentor to junior staff and consultants. Studied continuously and held training classes to help keep coworker’s development skills current. All projects were fully compliant with all FDA product development regulations.
Projects:
Wrote the Age Related Macular Degeneration therapy
Enhanced and performed maintenance on our Vision Restoration Therapy for stroke patients
Performed Usability Studies continuously for all projects with actual patients
Implemented an ASP.Net based website that interfaced with our customer management system to allow users to learn about and request versions of therapy packages
Wrote a WPF based Installation Verification application that automated verification of application dependencies (files, directories, registry keys, database schema, etc) saving our software verification and validation engineers hours of testing and eliminating installation and configuration errors
Beckman Coulter - Miami Florida
Aug 2001 to Dec 2006
Staff Software Development Engineer
May 2004 - Dec 2006
Senior Software Development Engineer
Aug 2001 - May 2004
Originally hired to maintain a medical sample preparation device but almost immediately transitioned to Research and Development after being recognized for very fast and effective development efforts on several feasibility projects in my first weeks. I was made a team leader at my first annual review.
Projects:
Integrated a series of medical instruments with a robotic arm to create a sample processing system that was sold for two million dollars
Redesigned a Cell Washing system software to integrate with a sample preparation system to allow the systems to enter the IVD market
Integrated a FC500 Flow Cytometer system with a robotic arm to enable microplate processing of sample enabling the system to enter into the Research market, for this I received an Outstanding Achievement award
Created a series of prototype systems integrating various Beckman Coulter and competitor instruments used at tradeshows to spark interest in system automation
Designed and wrote the FP1000 application and firmware working 80+ hours a week for three months, which combined the technologies of the sample preparation, cell washing, and lysing systems into a single device allowing Beckman Coulter to compete for a sixty million dollar contract. I was nominated for the Beckman Coulter Circle of Excellence for my work on this project
I received an Outstanding Achievement award for learning and using the Occum programming language to track down and fix a threading deadlock in the FC500 System. If the issue was not addressed the customer would have returned tw...
