Responsible for providing engineering support in the areas of process improvements, equipment sizing, thermodynamics, and also work with consultants/contractors on various projects
• Managed diverse responsibilities, including identifying problems by FEA/CFD modeling, process design, process review, project leadership, and working with vendors
• Investigated, researched and recommended for Extended nip (paper machine) technology for avoiding a bottleneck in speeding up the manufacturing process
• Designed and implemented a secondary roller nip (paper machine) for increasing the production rate
• Designed, developed and installed a vacuum system on the line for improving the quality of product
• Responsible for a project to reduce the capital cost of building a new plant by 20%. The original budget of $56 million was reduced through process equipment selection and alternative process concepts.
• Reviewed all the huge equipment (boilers, machine cones, ball-mills, cyclones, etc.) and process flow rates in a 600 million sq.ft. product through put plant to make sure they are sized correctly for the target through put of the plant.
• Identified the root-cause of a problem, discoloration at one end, that was holding one of the plants from selling the product in the market and solved the problem by CFD modeling. This enabled to introduce a new roofing product into the market.
• Developed an excel Thermal model using heat transfer and psychometric calculations to predict drying of roofing material in a counter flow oven with various zones of different temperatures and RH set points.
• Engineered oven modifications for turning it into a counter flow oven from independent flows to each zone.
• Modeled a mixer modification for cement slurry raw materials using FLUENT to reduce the mixing time by 25%
• Worked with contractors for mechanical and electrical installations on the manufacturing line. Coordinated effectively between contractors and production personnel for smooth and in time installation
• Purchased and used equipment (flow meters, pressure transducers, accelerometer, thermocouples) required for data acquisition for testing purposes on various projects
