EXPERIENCE
================================================================================
Junior Specialist
BioMiNT Lab, Irvine, Ca (Dec 2012 – Present)
• Consulted on and fabricated MEMS devices capable of blood-plasma separation and cell trapping for a start-up company.
• Responsible for investigating the migratory potential of stem cells in collaboration with Dr. Phil Schwartz from Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).
• Designed and fabricated microfluidic devices to evaluate diffusion characteristics of chemo-attractant in matrigel and determine optimal concentration needed for cell migration.
• Proposed and directed improvements needed in the laboratory such as setting up a softwall cleanroom, purchasing lithography and 3D printing equipment, and managing environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines.
Graduate Student Researcher
BioMiNT Lab, Irvine, Ca (Oct 2009 – Nov 2012)
• Thesis: Microfluidic device capable of trapping and encapsulating single cells and particles for use in single cell studies and assays under guidance of Dr. Abraham Lee.
• Performed CFD simulations to understand fluidic resistance, velocity profiles and pressure drops in the device to optimize and maximize trapping efficiency.
• Applied knowledge of fluid dynamics to encapsulate one-particle-per-trap in water-in-oil droplets.
• Developed protocols for cell culture, experimentation and device fabrication in the clean room.
• Facilitated data acquisition & analysis, statistical testing, experimental set-up, and analytical reports for various projects such as digital PCR and droplet sorting.
• Constructed a custom PCR thermo cycler and imaging system using peltier cooler, heat sink, water pumps & a slr camera.
• Author of peer reviewed publication: “Passive droplet sorting using viscoelastic flow focusing” in Lab on a Chip Journal.
