EXPERIENCE: Mr. Khan is a structural engineer with 11 years of experience in the areas of condition evaluation, design, and construction supervision. Biennial Inspection of EWR AirTrain Guideway – Assistant Team Leader (2005 & 2009)Structural Integrity Inspection of 1.5 miles of elevated steel box girder guide ways including steel piers and bearings. Work consisted of mostly night work with power block-out and lockout of sections of guide way during inspection. Inspection was done using man-lifts, cherry picker, ladders, and catwalks between the guide ways.
SUNY Stony Brook Old Chemistry Building The building core of 20,000sf per floor contains chemistry labs and general classroom space built in 1975. The first floor contains a large 6,000sf lecture hall, plus lobby and common space. The basement contains mechanical space, storage areas, and some academic support space. A typical upper floor contains 8 classrooms of 700sf (35 students) and 4 classrooms of 1400sf (70 students).The chemistry building will be changed to a general classroom building for use by the entire university. Classrooms need to be made larger than those that currently exist. SUNY would like to gut the building down to the structure, and replace all MEP systems. A new 10,000sf addition for a larger lecture hall is under consideration, increasing the size to 90,000sf. Afridi is providing the civil and structural design of this renovation and expansion.

Port Authority Building Facilities at Port Newark, NJ-Responsibilities include condition inspection of facilities in the field to evaluate existing structural conditions, classify and categorize defects, maintain inventory of defects, and log day to day progress of field work and make executive summary report of findings for submission to client.
NJ Transit Railroad Bridges in Northern New Jersey-Responsibilities included verification of shop drawings to ensure fabrication of material is in accordance with approved design drawings. Shop drawing review for construction phase work for rehabilitation of NJ transit railroad.
71 Bridges over Waterways in Essex County, NJ-Responsibilities included inspection of the bridges in field, logging defects by taking pictures, logging field measurements, compile priority repair letters while defining corrective actions to rectify defects and define repair procedures, maintained log to track progress of work, coordinated with various agencies for permits for performing work, worked on CAD to produce drawings reflecting field findings, updated PDI files after completion of inspection and prepared reports for final submission.
I-78, I-80, I-280 and NJ 21 in Northern New Jersey Inspection of 47 State-owned overpass bridges at various locations as an assistant team leader. All responsibilities were similar to 71 bridges project as stated above.
Hangar-12 at JFK International Airport, NYCost-estimation for demolition of Hangar – 12. Responsibilities included inspection of site to take a detailed inventory of all existing structural members. Estimated manpower, equipment, time and money required to complete the job, created spreadsheets to present several different demolition methods and approaches that can be used to accomplish the task.
