2004- Present La-z-Boy Research and Development Dayton, TN
New Product Upholstery Designer
• Daily use of MS Excel, MS Outlook, CAD Assyst design software, and self taught Solidworks training.
• Creation of new product throughout the La-Z-Boy product line including motion and stationary upholstered products.
• Taking artist concept and Merchandising direction to create a product following with La-Z-Boy design and production standards and then carrying it through to plant production.
• Preparation of content list for BOM and check for accuracy prior to plant introduction.
• Prepare Upholstery Note work instructions for plant use and shoot Upholstery videos to follow along.
• Universal polyurethane foam part usage and consolidation.
• Creation of inovative upholstery methods to ease production while adhering to La-Z-Boy quality and design standards.
• Per pattern polyurethane foam design ensuring optimum nesting for production yield.
• Design of panelboard pieces for use in upholstery manufacturing.
• Create templates for manufacturing upholstery use.
• Plant REA (Request for Engineering Action) project research and processing.
• Kepner Tregoe training for Problem Solving and Problem Analysis. (30 credit hrs)
• Familiar La-Z-Boy frame design, building, and structural testing.
• Mechanism installation and functionality inspections including standard reclining mechanisms and newly introduced power mechanisms including wire routing and installation.
• While on Continuou Improvement Team, lead and supported team members in several cost reduction and value improvement projects in various areas of production. (Leather Cost Reduction, Style Redesign, Engineering Changes.)
• Daily use of measuring tools.
• While on Continuous Improvement Team I was lead designer for REA (Request for Engineering Action) processing from the research phase, approval, then through to plant implementation.
• Forklift operator.


• Manufacturing equipment operator including band saws, polyurethane foam cutting equipment, belt sanders, plaining equipment, wood lathe, rip saws, spring clip machines, t-nut insert machines, and various other hand tools.
• Sampling and testing of polyurethane foam orders to assure it is within La-Z-Boy standards.
