EXPERIENCE
Graduate Research Assistant
08/2009 – 08/2011 Semiconductor Materials Laboratory, Michigan State
University, East Lansing, MI
Developed novel thermoelectric materials for power generation and solid state cooling funded by Energy Frontier Research Center and Department of Energy
• Synthesized and characterized the semiconducting materials GaSb and Ga2Te3 and determined their potential for thermoelectric application
• Solved the problem of large thermal conductivity of GaSb by solid solution formation with Ga2Te3 and decreased the thermal conductivity by more than 90%
• Optimized the electronic properties of these compounds through systematic doping studies and increased energy conversion efficiency by 30%
• Developed new synthesis methods which result in improved mechanical and thermoelectric properties of these compounds
• Designed the experiment and conducted the research both independently and in collaboration with members of my group to achieve goals in a timely fashion
Undergraduate Research
09/2008 – 07/2009 Senior Design Project, Department of Materials Science and
Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing
• Developed new preparation technologies for lead-free Piezoelectric ceramics,
(K, Na)NbO3, and improved its mechanical and Piezoelectric properties
• Ameliorated the synthesis process of (K, Na)NbO3 by two-step sintering method and non-stoichiometric sintering method
09/2005 – 07/2008 Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua
University, Beijing
Participated in a joint research project with GE Corporation and State key laboratory of new ceramic and fine processing, Tsinghua University, on applications of ceramic components for high temperature aircraft engine
• Developed Si-based ceramics (Si3N4, SiC) to replace Ni-based alloy for the engine component and increased allowed working temperature from 1200 to 1700 Kelvin
• Synthesized the environmental barrier coating (EBC) of Mullite to protect Si-based ceramic engi...
