- Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) National Air Space (NAS) Integration Project: Separation Assurance and Human Systems Interface Support
o Designed, developed, and extended various data post processing tools to support ongoing detect and avoid research for FAA requirement 14 CFR 91.113(b)
o Designed and developed a moving map display to enhance situational awareness for pilots with the following:
▪ Current selected aircraft and traffic location
▪ Detect and Avoid Alerting Logic for Unmanned Systems (Daidalus) bands for heading, airspeed, altitude, and
vertical airspeed for collision avoidance
▪ Visual flight rules (VFR) sectional aeronautical charts and orthographic terrain data
o Designed and developed a tablet voice switch communication system interface for air traffic controllers to be used in UAS simulations.
o Designed and developed a desktop audio and video capture package for playback on pilot and controller station to be used in the following:
▪ Controller workload analysis
▪ UAS pilot detect and avoid analysis
▪ Controller to UAS pilot communication analysis
o Extended NASA’s Multi Aircraft Control System (MACS) with new audio alerting and data logging capabilities. Includes the following:
▪ Integration of Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)
▪ Addition of Daidalus audio alerts with the use of the Modular Architecture for Research in Synthesis Text-To-
Speech (MARYTTS) engine
