Emphasis: Embedded Systems Design and Software Programming
Experience:
January 2011 – Present: Senior Systems Engineer, Tactical LOS & BLOS Comm Products, Rockwell Collins
* Designed new architecture for the ARC-210 modem for the very large and
highly complex MUOS waveform. MUOS is a military version of 3G using
satellites instead of cell towers.
* Hardware and software testing.
- Project Engineer of EMI and Environmental testing for ARC-210 equipment.
- Performed Formal Software Verification Test of ARC-210 equipment and
generated test reports. Ensured that a number of issues were properly
corrected before beginning tests.
- Attended off-site training for Joint Interoperability Test Command tool
for Digitally Aided Close Air Support Variable Message Format Messaging.
Also attended training for bus controller used by the customer for
testing.
* Systems requirements capture and management across all ARC-210 products and
ancillaries. Updating test documentation and tracing system requirements to
valid tests.
* Project Engineer for obsolete parts issues.
- Managed and expedited electrical and mechanical designs and check process
for obsolete cable for data loader to make customer deliveries on an
accelerated schedule.
- Gathered data, analyzed, and proposed solutions to obsolete Flash in
Remote Control Unit.
* Interfaced with external customers and resolved a number of platform
integration issues.
* Bid and Proposal experience.
- Created Rough Order of Magnitude estimate for systems effort required
for new international military Receiver-Transmitter.
- Created Bid and Proposal and schedule for replacement of obsolete parts
in Remote Control Unit.
- Assisted in the generation of the Bid and Proposal for a new major
international product.
July 2010 – January 2011: Senior Software Engineer, Communications Software Department, Rockwell Collins.
* Programming and integration of JPALS software into the RT-1939
Receiver-Transmitter hardware.
- As the only experienced Software Engineer on the program, I mentored
junior Engineers on embedded software programming design and techniques.
- Work with Systems Engineers to resolve issues that occurred throughout
the program.
- Work with Test Engineers to develop white box testing of JPALS software.
- Creation and maintenance of System Requirements Specifications and
Software Design Documents.
* Proposed more efficient and user friendly software unit testing tools to
the department. Instructed test personnel on how they could be used more
effectively than the current tools.
Jan. 1997 – July 2010: Senior Software Engineer, V/UHF Software Engineering Department, Rockwell Collins.
* One of the three Rockwell Collins Engineers that created the original JPALS
waveforms in 1999-2000. Submitted patent application for method of
TDMA/CDMA message slot assignments and created a PC application to generate
slot assignment tables used in design analysis. Received personal letters
of recognition from Raytheon and Sierra Nevada.
* Waveform/Protocol Development and Software Programming
- Active participant in the development of the MIL-STD-188-220 standard
though participation in the Combat Net Radio Working Group and
considered an expert in the protocol. Involved with protocol and
software development for over 12 years. Highly involved with
determining network access algorithm equations and attempting to
minimize latency while accommodating many different types of equipment
connected to the network. Developed, maintai...
