Objectives
I enjoy working in a challenging and dynamic environment where quality and attention to detail are appreciated and innovative problem solving may be explored. My goal is enhancing the quality of our community through responsible and forward thinking implementation of technologies.
Qualifications
I am a highly creative person with a diverse background in manufacturing, residential development/civil engineering, and the sciences. The most recent phase of my career has been one in which I have decided to further my education in hopes of increasing my opportunities for applying my talents. I have recently completed an Engineering/Physics B.S. with a minor in Mathematics at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. I have also recently completed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam and have achieved the Engineering Intern (EI) designation.
While pursuing my degree I had the opportunity to participate successfully in state-wide robot competitions, have launched weather balloon satellites to conduct mid-atmospheric experiments at 16+miles elevation as part of the Colorado Space Grant Consortium, and have participated in successful joint campaigns between Fort Lewis and the U.S. Air Force Academy to perform the first ever multi-vantage recordings of upper-atmospheric sprite activity. I have been and continue to be regularly involved with the Fort Lewis Observatory performing astronomical observations and updating the system for the next generation of study.
In addition to the Engineering standards of fluid flow analysis, structural analysis, land surveying, dynamics and the bevy of mathematics courses including advanced mathematical concepts, my curriculum also included in-depth review of systems from a physics perspective including quantum theories of matter. Iterative numerical solutions to complex problems and matrix mathematics computation packages were extensively utilized to provide robust and direct solutions to previously imposing problems.
Another focus of my curriculum was alternative and green energy solutions for industrial and residential applications and life-cycle assessment of design choices. For my senior project I along with a team achieved advances in biosensor technology for faster predictions of ecoli contamination than are currently possible with existing technology.
The previous phase of my career consisted of architectural, structural, and civil design with several homes and entire neighborhoods of my design being constructed in Colorado, including countless minor road and municipal improvement projects. During this time I became highly proficient with Autodesk software packages, namely Civil 3d (thru 2009), Land Desktop (thru 2007), Revit Architecture Building modeling software (thru 2009), and a variety of attendant software such as ESRI ArcGIS, BCI Calc, Microsoft Excel and Word. I served as an Autodesk beta tester for early Civil 3d and Revit releases from the beginning through approximately 2007. I have completed Autodesk sponsored/certified professional development courses in both Land Desktop and Civil Design essentials and Trimble sponsored/certified training in RTK (real-time kinetic) GPS-based surveying.
My development work afforded me ample opportunity to coordinate amongst many disparate trades and entities in order to achieve complex results. I am thus well adapted to work on major collaborative projects, as well as taking a project through to completion on my own both in the vertical and horizontal aspects of residential construction. I am now proficient with many types of surveying equipment, both optical and GPS-based for data collection and construction staking purposes and additionally own my own Nikon total station and gear. I am skilled in the use of R.F. underground utility locators both by direct connect and broadcast methods.
Additionally I have become well versed in the handling/processing of data from others, datum shifting, plat production and legal description writing, and the requirements of county and city governments for most types of development projects. I am familiar with common bidding and procurement practices, and am experienced with producing detailed take-off data and contractor scopes of work. I speak conversational Spanish.
My early career was spent in the manufacturing industry doing everything from high-precision clean-room type machining of tiny robotic parts for the super-conductor industry to large-scale production of massive valves for the paper industry. I was instrumental in the process and sequencing of product lines and processes as well as increasing efficiency in all aspects of manufacturing. Through my pursuit and enjoyment of making things and making them better I developed a very strong sense of spatial awareness and find the visualization and proper representation of elements three-dimensionally to be second-nature.
In all I do I enjoy staying abreast of the latest products and processes, and find that my extracurricular professional self-improvements and my strong desire and ability to learn and adapt are among my most valuable assets.

As the Cad Manager and lone draftsman for a very busy and growing design-build firm, I was personally responsible for the production of end deliverables and plan coordination of several large design projects. I produced many of our improvement documents for our large projects, generally through collaboration with other professionals. I also was responsible for most of our individual site planning, civil work, data collection, and construction staking for the homes that we built. I created many of the architectural plans that we built from conception through to construction documents, when my civil workload allowed. Some of the architecture was done on spec, while some was done on a custom basis including detailed perspective renderings and a variety of marketing collaterals/illustrations. My collaboration with these firms ended only in order to pursue completion of my Physics/Engineering degree.
