PROJECTS
Independent Study Project with Professor George Deodatis Spring 2012 – Present
• Created a finite element model using SAP2000 of the main tower of the Washington National Cathedral to investigate the impact of the 2011 Virginia earthquake.
• Developing a final recommendation, through a dynamic analysis of the model to enhance the pinnacles’ strength and make them capable of withstanding at least a 5.8 magnitude earthquake.
• Made field visit to Washington D.C. with the Mason Foreman to inspect damage caused by the earthquake and to gather information and necessary dimensions for the model.
Senior Design Capstone Projects, Technical Project Manager Fall 2011
• Developed a 3D SAP2000 finite element model to calculate the stresses on individual members, overall deflections, and structural stability for the AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition project.
• Performed classic influence line analysis of a concrete, two-lane box girder bridge to determine maximum load combination and moment distributions for establishing design load requirements.
• Organized sketches and converted them to formal design drawings in AutoCAD for the final reports.
Assessing Energy in Buildings, Prof. John Taylor’s Group – Research Assistant Spring 2011
• Supported development of an energy incentive experiment that focused on managing behavioral change to reduce energy consumption and emissions of dormitory students.
• Helped develop qualitative surveys to understand incentives that lead to adoption of energy saving practices.
• Work culminated in a publication in “Energy and Buildings” journal.
Design Fundamentals Course, Apollo Theater Design Group – Primary Facilitator Fall 2009
• Managed a green audit for the Apollo Theater in Harlem that resulted in the investment of an HVAC system.
• Created project agenda, overlooked the design process, managed the budget, and handled final project review.
• Responsible for the final presentation presented to the Head of Facilities.
