DNA/RNA extraction for medical diagnostics in low resource setting
• Optimized materials, solution compositions, and techniques for improvement of a low resource biomarker extraction design. Increased biomarker recovery 23% compared to previous design.
• Designed and developed two functional automated diagnostics prototypes for field-testing while meeting design goals established in the grant and matched the current gold standard in efficiency of biomarker extraction from a patient sample.
Multispectral quantum dot-based retinal imaging
• Immunohistochemistry of retinal tissue searching for markers for inflammation in the vasculature of the retina to predict atherosclerotic lesions in coronary arteries.
