Manufacturing / Project / Design Engineer
• Moved into new position at new startup manufacturing plant since launch of new product and startup of plant in fall 2008.
• Conducted all project-specific insulation product engineering for all large-contract manufacturing projects at manufacturing plant. This entailed the calculation of all project-specific parameters of interest for ensured high-quality final product success.
• Responsible for managing all New Product Introduction (NPI) and ensuring that projects/products move successfully through manufacturing process.
• Used FEA, FMEA, GD&T, DFM to improve product/process quality and reduce manufacturing cost.
• Designed all project-specific insulation product components using AutoCAD Inventor 3D software internally & externally for Cabot & customers. Product component materials were Plastic, ceramic, & metallic.
• Designed all project-specific Plastic/Metal/Wood tooling using AutoCAD Inventor 3D software.
Managed business relationships with the vendors who fabricated this tooling and oversaw the
Fabrication process to ensure high-quality/per-spec tooling was being produced.
• Worked with high-vacuum & high-tonnage pressing applications. Also sheet metal, steel, and welding fabrications,
• Designed and constructed Large-Scale Production Machines for use at new startup manufacturing plant in Billerica, MA.
• Executed numerous DOE’s at plant to reduce variation in product quality. Significantly reduced internal product failures by making process changes in accordance with DOE results.
• Made numerous improvements to manufacturing machines including mechanical/electrical additions/changes to existing production machinery. All improvements took into consideration mechanical/electrical/chemical information relevant and vital to the product and the manufacturing process with the goal being improved yields, greater efficiency and a decrease in downtime.
• Managed numerous mechanical & electrical contractors at plant to implement plant improvements.
• Mentored/Trained 1 junior-level engineer and 2 Quality/Process-Technicians at Plant.

• Trained in and executed Lean/Six-Sigma methodologies.

Cabot Corporation, Billerica, MA November 2007 – Nov 2008
Applications Development Engineer
• Played a key role in completing the development of Cabot’s new Pipe-insulation product by developing new thin-film HDPE/Foil thermal-radiation barrier to attach to insulation product construction for improved insulating performance. Evaluated/Tested the gamut of polymer-films/foils to arrive at successful final product construction.
• Reduced manufacturing cost of this product by 52% by making technical product improvements and changing all aspects of supply chain.
• Generated drawings of all insulation product components using AutoCAD Inventor 3D software for group and customers.
• Designed and executed numerous product development tests and experiments on insulation products including Thermal conductivity, Tapped Density, Creep, Steady State Compressibility, Young's Modulus, Stress/Strain.
• Researched, contacted, and hired Plastics Extrusion, Lamination, & Die-Cutting companies for conversion of HDPE/Foil Structural Barrier to finished product.
• Trained in Design of Experiments (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Regression Analysis.
