Overview
Samek is the founder and president of HalStor, Inc. (www.halstor.com), a design and consulting company specializing in storage and communication interfaces and architectures. He founded HalStor, Inc. after more than 30 years of experience in product development, design and project management.
Samek previously founded C-Star Corp., a company that focused on the development of new data storage technologies. C-Star later became SANgate Systems - a storage appliance company - where he invented SANgate Systems' breakthrough technologies for managing stored data. SANgate Systems later became Sepaton, Inc., (www.sepaton.com) currently located in Marlborough, MA.
Samek also held senior-level technical positions with EMC Corp., including leading the development team for ESCON connectivity within EMC's Symmetrix Storage Systems. Samek also influenced EMC’s product and marketing policies. Before joining EMC, he served in various development roles related to I/O controllers and computer systems.
Samek holds an MSEE degree from Columbia University and earned a BSEE degree from Technion University in Haifa, Israel. Samek currently holds two patents in the area of data replication.

Architectures: Experienced in computer architectures, storage, networking and distributed systems.
Digital design: Very proficient in complex FPGA designs with an emphasis on the latest chips with embedded processors.
Computer Interfaces and Controllers: Various I/O and communication controllers including SAS, Fibre Channel, SCSI, FICON, ESCON and others.
Communication: Various communication protocols, Spread Spectrum Systems and Telecommunication Networks (ISDN, AIN, Switch and CPE design).

Founder
- Designed a highly redundant Fibre Channel (FC) /MIL-STD-1553 switch based on a fully mirrored, single chip (FPGA with embedded processors) implementation with extensive error checking and fencing (isolation) capabilities.
- Designed and implemented Embedded Controller Development System for FPGAs with embedded processors (Simba).
- Designed and implemented FC, SAS and SATA cores on Simba
- Designed and implemented FC to SAS/SATA protocol converter
