PERSONAL SUMMARY

I am a highly motivated, self-directed oriented individual with a wealth of experience, capable of working with limited or no supervision. My work spans real-time, embedded systems based on multi-tiered multi-processor architectures as well as organic, clustered server-based applications with web interfaces. I have been involved the full lifecycle of software development using multiple development methodologies, including Scrum and Agile, in CMMI level 4 and 5 environments. I deal well with complexity and ambiguity and am well-suited for a position as an individual contributor or in a leadership capacity. I have held a current secret security clearance.

SKILLS OVERVIEW

* SYSTEMS ARCHITECTURE: Systems and software decomposition; modeling of static and dynamic system-level behavior; use of UML and architecture and software design modeling tools (Rational Rose and Rhapsody)

* SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT: Strong in C, C++, multiple assembly languages, and legacy mainframe (COBOL, PL/1, JCL), interface definition languages (IDL, XML); multiple target OSs (Linux, RTOS, mainframe) and DBMS (DB2, Access, real-time DBMS, SQL), scripting (UNIX shells, Perl); multiple IDEs, including Eclipse

* NETWORKING PROTOCOLS: Significant experience in TCP/IP networks; strong IPv4 addressing skills, including subnets, network masks, NAT and PAT; web interfaces, such as HTTP, HTML, SOAP and XML; encryption, including VPN & SSL; authentication, including RADIUS, LDAP, Kerberos, and wireless (WEP/WPA)

* SECURITY: Strong working knowledge of INFOSEC, PKI, and IKE; similar ability with IPsec security protocols and constructs, such as MD5, SHA, AES, SSL/TLS, Diffie-Hellman, etc; application of these concepts in communications networks; versant in strategies for defense-in-depth, including deep packet inspection

* SYSTEMS ENGINEERING: Requirements definition, analysis, and tracing to SDLC artifacts; use of requirements repository tools (DOORS, ReqPro), and interaction with customers and management on technical issues

WORK EXPERIENCE SELF-EMPLOYED contract engineer and consultant 2009 – present

Accepted four major offers and several short-term contracts in a variety of industries. Each drew upon my skills and experience in the domains of security, software architecture, systems engineering, and technical leadership.

UNICON International 2013-present

Contract engineer to a telecommunications equipment manufacturer, in the software integration team for pre- and post-paid billing systems. Most significant contribution has been establishing a virtual simulation environment to reduce the reliance of scarce prototype resources for testing of procedures used in field deployment of services.

Volt Technical Services 2012-2013

Contract software engineer to a major aerospace manufacturer. Implemented a variety of features in C++ for the real-time training simulator for a military helicopter. Most significant contributions were the design and implementation of simulation of a number of external test systems and simulation of faults within the aircraft.

CADTEL Systems 2011-2012

Consultant to vendor of network management products. Identified a number of new potential products that would satisfy market demands and compliment the current major product line. Most significant contribution was definition of key features that comprise a proposed new suite of network management products.

Superior Group 2009-2011

Contract engineer a major defense industry company. Defined the architecture of new software features, via UML and the IBM Rational ROSE modeling software. Key contributions include leading the design, implementation and integration for high-profile embedded systems features, enabling the completion of key milestones and the definition and C++ implementation of features pertaining to identifying security vulnerabilities.

ALCATEL-LUCENT (Lucent Technologies, AG communication Systems, et al) 1977 – 2008

Served in various business units, assuming positions of increasing responsibility, most of which were technical in nature. Initially involved in software product development for embedded real-time systems, responsibilities in latter years expanded to include architecture and analysis, and extensive customer interaction.

Consulting Member of Technical Staff 2002 – 2008

Lead the definition of system architecture, system modeling, and system-level object interactions, for security and network management features of converged Voice over IP (VoIP) and data network products. Defined security policies and operations workflow for automated network management. Led and oversaw feature development of embedded real-time systems, culminating in the first commercial-grade 3GPP-conformant product. Served as business-level SME and corporate resource for INFOSEC-based security in multi-processor architectures, security-related features and network management of VoIP networks.

Engineering Fellow 2000 – 2002

Led teams in the architectural development, strategy, and system modeling for the evolution of tra...
