Recent Accomplishments:
• Design and implement facility monitoring system to control the times for the facility lighting to come on and off. I also integrated the controls to our vacuum system for demand start-up instead of running multiple pumps when they are not needed. This is a savings of over $25,000 annually. The monitoring system also monitors and reports on critical pieces of equipment and shows us our machine utilization, which allows us to project when we will require new equipment due to growth.
• Design a building with infrastructure and growth to support a 16 toe fiber placement machine that will reduce the cost of placing carbon fiber on tools to fabricate aircraft parts by 50% annually and lessen the weight of the parts for the OEM’s. Once the building was designed and approved, I was then in charge of selecting the contractors and managing the completion of the building and machine installation.
• Design floor layout and Coordinate the build of the NORDAM Mexico facility.
• Designed controls and implemented heat blanket process to increase production of our flat panel line. This equates to a savings of 250,000 annually. The savings comes from a 150% increase in production and a 75% reduction in energy savings.
• Select, design, and install 1.2 million dollar clean room and paint center to be hex chrome compliant.
• Design floor layout and Coordinate the build of the NORDAM Wichita facility.
• Select and design dust collection systems need in Wichita facility.
• Implement safety warning lights and digital counters for counting days without a lost time accident. The warning lights were installed to notify stakeholders when a near miss, incident, or accident has occurred.
• Selection of lighting and compressor that have reduced the electrical consumption. There has been an estimated savings of 20% due to using T5 high bay fluorescent lights and variable speed compressors to minimize the use of electricity.
• Creation of a database to log paint usage and operating procedures, from that information we improved the transfer efficiency and paint usage by 25%.This is a savings of $50,000+ per year.
• Designed and installed a blower system onto part conveyor to dry parts after they have been pressure tested under water. Before the blower system was installed we were using compressed air to dry the parts. By eliminating the use of compressed air we were able to shutdown one compressor, saving us $60,000 per year.
• Implementation and Start-up of a CMMS system. We have had this system in place for approximately a year and have used it to reduce the maintenance downtime by 30%. We have used the information the system has accumulated to troubleshoot the equipment with the highest downtime and to also give us justification to replace equipment that continually breaks down.
• Implementation of new pulse welding power supplies on existing weld equipment to reduce weld spatter. Once we dialed the operating parameters to meet customer requirements we were able to eliminate 3 positions on our paintline that were used to remove the weld spatter from the cylinders. This was a savings of $270,000 annually.
• Implementation and start-up of a liquid helium system. We converted our gas tube trailer system to a liquid trailer system with the helium supplier’s help and specifications. With this conversion we are saving $100,000 annually.
• Replacement of our aluminum stress relief oven. With the replacement of the stress relief oven we have made a 20% increase of production through the oven and a cost savings of $13,000 in gas consumption per year.
• Helium fill process change. During our helium fill process we were pulling a vacuum on our product taking about 10% of the process in a shift. After testing, we eliminated the vacuum portion of our helium fill process giving a 10% increase of production and a savings of $45,000 annually.
