SKAPS Industries 2007- 2013 Plant Engineering Manager:
SKAPS has three plant locations in Georgia with holdings in India and Brazil. SKAPS is the leading supplier of engineered geo-textile fabrics used in the construction industry. I provide direct Engineering managerial support to two facilities in Georgia and provide training support to the third. I also provide support both direct and indirect to the facilities in India.
Safety: Safety is always a first priority. During my tenure with SKAPS I fully developed and implemented an acceptable OSHA training program. The program and training have now successfully withstood two OSHA inspections.
Production: Through intense training of the frontline managers in a 5S system production was increased by 10%. My first priority in the production arena was to train the managers. The managers on staff at each location lacked basic management skills to interact with their employees and there was no formal reporting structure. As I began to teach each manager how to interact, discipline and positively motivate employees, a stable base from which the company could grow was established.
Maintenance: Having a background in maintenance allowed me to quickly pinpoint areas that were hindering SKAPS from being a world class manufacturing facility. Through joint production and maintenance endeavors I was able to reduce stop levels on the five production lines to an average of just over one stop per shift per line.

There had been a series of managers at the location and I was asked to take the Nevown location and provide training and stability. After five years Nevown was performing well and I returned to other duties in the company. In 2002 Nevown began to struggle and in 2004 I was asked to take Nevown again. I accepted the Nevown plant management position in 2004 and remained there until the company closed in 2007. Designed and specified production lines and installation process. Stabilized supply parts by implementing a system to replace repair parts before the parts reached critical failure points. This system resulted in a 22% savings in repair costs and equipment downtime. Increased the average education level of employees by partnering with local community colleges and mentoring a continuing education program.
