Summary:
I am a recent doctoral graduate in environmental engineering with bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering eager to utilize and expand my knowledge and skillset. I am hard-working, extremely motivated, and dedicated to high quality work. My objective is to obtain a full or part-time position/internship/volunteer as an environmental engineer focused on environmental remediation, preservation, and sustainability with opportunity for growth and advancement.
Experience:
•Environmental Engineering Researcher/Graduate Student: Environmental Engineering Laboratory, Riverside, CA (09/2008-08/2011) and Iowa City, IA (08/2011- 06/2013)
Extensive research of nanomaterial reactivity in aggregate and colloidal suspensions with regards to:
- Remediation of surface and groundwater
- Environmental modeling
- Material synthesis and photoelectrocatalyst fabrication for waste-to-energy
conversion
- Photochemical microbial disinfection
-Planned, prepped, and conducted all experiments. This included material synthesis and characterization, all analytic analyses, and necessary control experiments. I also collected, organized, and analyzed all experimental data.
-Closely mentored a total of five undergraduate students in laboratory functions including safety, experimental preparation, and analytical techniques.
-Worked and communicated with vendors, technicians, and funding agencies on a regular basis.
-Undertook extensive scientific literature reviews and published original work in high-impact scientific journals
-Communicated complicated and specialized work through writing, oral technical presentations, and non-technical presentations to various audiences
•Chemical Engineering Laboratory Teaching Assistant: University of California Riverside (09/2008 - 04/2009)
-Managed an upper division undergraduate lab in chemical engineering. Provided experiment demonstrations, instructions, and feedback to students. Ensured proper lab safety protocols were upheld and equipment was in working order.
-Teaching assistant for an undergraduate course in water quality. Graded assignments, provided feedback, and held office hours.
•Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Researcher: Chemical Eng. Laboratory, University of California Irvine (01/2007-10/2007)
-Collected water and soil samples in Newport Bay. Processed water samples for detection of fecal indicator bacteria (FIB), salinity, temperature, and total suspended particles. Data was used to compare to mathematical models to predict dangerous levels of pathogens in water bodies.
