Key Qualifications
Structural engineering experienced in construction management, code compliance and structural design including concrete, steel and timber, commercial, residential buildings, and educational facility design and detailing including; seismic and dynamic analysis, and experience in peer design review for compliance with applicable building codes. Skilled in: all aspects of structural engineering, project management, hands-on structural design, feasibility study, preparation and production of drawings and specs.
Mr. Rea is proficient with a wide range of design and engineering software, including STAAD.Pro, SAP, ENERCALC, RAM Frame, LARSA and PCA Column. International standards included AISC, ACI, ASD, ASCE, AASHTO, and IBC as well as local standards including New York State Building Code and New York City Building Code. He utilized ACI-318, IBC and ASCE standards for concrete, AISC, and ASCE standards for steel structures. Consistently noted by past and present supervisors, associates, clients, and staff for attention to detail, outstanding job performance, and leadership by example, ability to prioritize multiple projects, dedication to quality, and completion of all projects within budgets and deadlines.
Relevant Experience

• Port Authority of New York and New Jersey: structural engineering consultant providing preliminary building design and lead engineer for various structural repairs of George Washington Bridge.

• Bayonne Bridge, New York City: prepared structural details of pre cast piers, pier caps and bearing pedestals showing pre cast segment geometry, mild reinforcement and pre stressing tendon layout. Responsible for design of reinforcement details according to latest AASHTO requirements. Provided contract documents for final design.

• Tel Aviv Red Line: performed structural analysis and calculations for proposed underground cut and cover subway stations. $3 Billion project consists of 10 underground stations as part of a new Light Rail system in Tel Aviv, Israel. Responsible for independent checking of structural design proposed by subconsultant engineers working for the Israeli Transit Authority

• Number 7 Line Subway Extension, New York City: reviewed analysis and calculations for ventilation shaft and tunnel connecting the Site K Ventilation building to the new 34th St. Station under 11th Ave. Reviewed shop drawings during construction phase. Analysis and design of four story reinforced concrete building for gravity, wind and seismic loads. Prepared calculations and contract drawings.

Performed 3D finite element analysis of 60 ft deep concrete shafts and 140 ft long adit tunnels connecting the Site L Facilities Building to the #7 Line running tunnels. Designed shafts and tunnels for earth, hydrostatic, and surcharge loading from adjacent structures. Prepared calculations and contract drawings including structural plans and details.

Design and analysis of the Site J 5 story reinforced concrete moment frame structure with 95 ft deep vertical shaft and 150 ft long entrance tunnels connecting to 34th St. Station. Structure, including columns and shear walls, is to be incorporated into a future high rise overbuild. Performed lateral analysis of structure under seismic loading and wind loads induced by future overbuild. Performed 3D finite element analysis of entrance tunnels E1 and E2, ventilation shaft and entrance tunnels T1A and T1B. Designed tunnels and shaft for earth pressure, hydrostatic pressure and surcharge from future overbuild and studied effects of proposed future foundations over entrance tunnels. Prepared calculations and structural plans and details of shaft and entrance tunnels for final design. Prepared calculations and drawings for design of concrete shear wall, composite columns, caisson and footing foundations. Reviewed calculations by other engineers. Performed analysis of Site J Building response to ventilation fan vibrations and possible effects on future overbuild. Performed dynamic analysis of entire structure subjected to oscillating fan forces at the fan room level and compared velocity and acceleration values to acceptance criteria.

Prepared calculations for the Site P underground structure consisting of excavation shaft, inclined entrance tunnel and 100 ft long, 4 ft wide reinforced concrete shear wall for future overbuild. Extremely large loads imposed on the shear wall (including 220,000 kips axial dead load) required high strength, 10ksi concrete and heavy reinforcement with bundled rebars. Designed prestressed rock anchors and concrete caissons connecting to the footing to resist uplift forces and hydrostatic pressure. The shear wall is designed to resist shear, axial and moment forces from the future overbuild and out of plane forces resulting from a 6” offset of the wall above. Designed excavation shaft walls and entrance tunnels for earth, hydrostatic and surcharge pressures and studied effects of proposed caisson and footing foundations over the entrance tunnel. Prepared calculations, plans and details for final design.

Reviewed shop drawings for reinforced concrete station liner at 34th St. Station and connecting tunnels. Reviewed calculations for design of tunnel and prepared further calculations of tunnels liner for revised profile due to over excavation. Performed analysis of flexural cracking under service loads and compared to acceptance criteria. Prepared calculations and drawings for 34th St Station “finishes” including steel supports for mechanical, electrical and architectural equipment and ceiling panels.

• Aqueduct Racetrack Casino, New York City: code enforcement official working for NYS Office of General Services to oversee code compliance of $500 Million, fast paced construction of the new Aqueduct Racetrack Casino. Managed all aspects o...
