--SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT--
TEMPLE ASCE/AISC NATIONAL STUDENT STEEL BRIDGE COMPETITION TEAM
September 2011 – May 2012
Project Lead and Chief Designer
During spring semester, I worked approximately 25 hours a week on the Steel Bridge Project while taking full-time course load and maintaining a high academic standard.
Supervised the effort to designed bridge superstructure geometry based on research, site constraints, technical limitations, and construction feasibility.
Modeled bridge and statically analyzed critical load cases in STAAD.Pro.
Developed member sizes and connection specs according to AISC 14th ed., the LRFD method and practical availability. Drafted workshop drawings in AUTOCAD 2012
Fabricated individual bridge parts using a Bridgeport mill, cut-off saw, and other shop machinery. Learned to TIG weld and welded parts to form bridge members.
Failure-tested two connection mock-ups in Tinius Olsen hydraulic tension tester to verify calculated strength.
Led the team as we placed 1st in four categories and 1st place overall at Mid-Atlantic ASCE Conference. The team competed at the national level at Clemson University, placing in the top 10 in ‘Lightness’ and ‘Structural Efficiency’.
