WORK EXPERIENCE
United States Peace Corps August 2011-October 2013
Masters International - Water and Sanitation Volunteer, Circuit Rider Republic of Panama
• Worked with indigenous communities to improve access to clean water and sanitation to increase potable water to more than 500 community members
• Organized and facilitated seven maintenance training seminars in rural communities to reduce water borne illness around the country
• Managed two projects improving water gravity systems by redesign and updating of infrastructure
o Designed four spring captures, two pipe networks, and six pipe bridges to increase quantity of water to communities
o Supervised the work and teach appropriate construction methods to 60 community members to use in maintenance work in the future
o Developed methodologies for sustainable infrastructure development projects that communities can carry out without foreign assistance; fund raising, technical knowledge, etc.
• Established relationships with people in the host country Panama for better understanding by the U.S., and vice versa
Research for the Masters International program of Michigan Technological University in the field of environmental engineering and to bring enlightenment to the scientific community
• Studied groundwater spring capturing structures for use in gravity distribution systems to understand hydrology of watershed
o Evaluated six catchment structures for efficiency, longevity, functionality
• Developed design standards for capture structures for Peace Corps volunteers to use in future construction
ENGINEERING INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
