Environmental Control Life Support Systems Intern

• Assisted in the testing of the Advanced Plant Habitat (APH), a system that will be the largest microgravity plant growth chamber on the International Space Station when it is launched in 2015.
• Conducted testing on the development of the water recovery, thermal control, and environmental control subsystems as a part of the Fluids and Propulsion Division in a specialized lab.
• Worked on the concept and building of a prototype Hydroponic wheel that will support plant growth in microgravity.

• Research Project: performed research on methods to purify ISS wastewater brine for further use. The objective of the research project was to remove hardness (calcium/ magnesium), Phosphate, Sulfate, and Nitrate from wastewater brine while leaving as much sodium, potassium, and chloride as possible.
• Operated in a bioreactor, analytical chemistry, and standard chemistry lab.
• Experience with resin bead technology and utilizing a workshop to build lab materials.
