Senior Software/Mechanical Engineer (4/09 – 6/14)
Vigilent Corporation, El Cerrito, California
• Founding team member of an energy efficiency startup specializing in HVAC control of data centers, collocation centers, and buildings using wireless sensors. Responsible for building up the engineering infrastructure of the core product.
• Co-developed patented multi-variable control algorithms for controlling heterogeneous cooling unit types in a contained room. Control actuators include On/Off, VFD (variable frequency drive), and TSP (temperature set point, return and discharge). Co-developed the AI engine used for model prediction and control, implemented in Python.
• Software designed and architected the control system for data center and building applications using state machines. Integrated the control application with supporting modules (Firebird DB, Bacnet/DUST wireless protocols).
• Designed and implemented thermal simulators of data center and buildings using MATLAB. The simulators were either pure software simulation or hardware in the loop and used for developing control system (closed feedback) prototypes and for testing/QA purposes.
• Co-developed web-based interface for dashboard/monitoring/trending system. Developed interactive thermal floor plan and cooling influence maps as well as a sophisticated plotting application for data trending.
• Performed commissioning and on-site software installation at various data center sites. Instrumental in providing support and demonstrating energy savings at pilot sites to first customers such as NTT and Verizon which ultimately led to future multi-million dollar deals.
