Mechanical and Manufacturing Equipment Engineer
Worked in the Equipment Engineering Department (maintenance) at Triquint where simplicity, functionality and speed were key. Served in two types of engineering functions: 1) Mechanical engineering designer performing continuous process improvement, (CPI), support of mechanical assemblies and components in all of the process equipment in the entire wafer fab and wafer fab finishing operations. 2) Equipment sustaining maintenance, upgrades and new equipment installations of a variety of semiconductor process equipment, including solvent sinks, mechanically intensive tools like wafer probers, an RTA and water and CO2 sprayers.
Mechanical Engineering
* Mechanical design of custom engineered equipment and designed new features to existing hardware. Created over 1000 mechanical components and many assemblies for all the equipment in the plant. Some new product design and development.
* Performed detailed tolerance analysis and attention to functional details to create best outcomes.
* Customized, performed CPI and cost reduction through second sourcing of ceramic and anodized aluminum components for use in semiconductor processing equipment.
* Worked closely to satisfy internal customer specifications from various engineers, managers and various production staff to ensure program success. Examples: Detailed process chuck designs; plasma etch end point monitoring hardware; pins down sensor assembly in a photo track; multiple-angle CO2 spray gun mounting assembly; re-designed and performed tolerance fit analysis on etch chamber liners. Sourcing and procurement for all.
* Created gas distribution box 3D model and drawings using vendor CAD material and component CAD data to facilitate fast and timely upgrade installation of equipment to reduce line down time.
* Designed with all types of material selections that are used in semiconductor equipment such as ceramic, aluminum with 5 mil anodization and many various engineering plastics.
* Design development of simple and complex copper, tin and gold plating tooling assemblies for manual plating stations for use in processing high volume. Performed assembly DFM.
* Mechanical Machine design improvement iterations, procurement, testing of custom mechanical robot sub-assembly and piece parts using 3D assembly models.
o Researched and developed new parts for this robot and various production tools in the fab.
o Resolved issues with precision motion using new and alternate machine design elements.
o Engineering support for this robot and provide suggestions for maintenance technicians.
* Utilized engineering contractor for complete FEA analysis of complex spring designs.
* Conducted cognitive versions of FMEA, PFMEA and DFMEA, feasibility and risk analysis for most mechanical designs.
* Generated complete detailed build to print packages with bill of materials for machined, welded, plastic welded and sheet metal components. Fabrication supplier support for best outcome.
* Designed, sourced and tested many various types of mechanical piece parts with various and unique material selections.
* 17 years in AutoCAD Inventor 3D CAD which leads to quick proficiency in Solidworks.
* Manufacturing Engineering representation during design review and drawing checking to eliminate error rate and reduce fabrication costs.
* Supported wire and cable preparation using wire stripper dies and hot wire stripper tooling.
