Feasibility Study of Plasma Torch for RCS Thrusters based on Low Energy Consumption
- To understand the theory behind plasma physics and utilize this foundation for the development of an efficient igniter system for Reaction Control System (RCS) thrusters.
- Team lead for this research project which was in collaboration with engineering mentors and an assistant.
- Design optimization process was used to minimize the development costs by analyzing numerous industrial plasma torches based on gas dynamic and heat transfer equations
- Designing various AC and DC power systems for finding a suitable electric system as a plasma driver and in development of a data acquisition system (NI-DAQ) with corresponding control software (LabVIEW).
- Designing a specialized low pass filter circuit for eliminating electromagnetic interference (EMI) for a data acquisition system (NI-DAQ).
- Developing successful mass flow rate calculations for a complex geometry of the torch and piping network with hydraulic principles.
- Conducting performance-estimation and system-efficiency analysis for the plasma torch by MATLAB.
- Achieving high overall system stability by breaking all components down into multiple small scale systems and proving their functional characteristics.
- Modeling the plasma torch head and sub-system assemblies with SolidWorks
Design Projects
20N Thruster Design (Individual Research Project at Boeing)
- Developing a simplified design process to reduce cost and time to increase the efficiency of performance estimation for small scale thrusters
- This project includes understanding the details of compressible gas behavior and chemical reaction characteristics
- The design of liquid propulsion system was constructed with the aid NASA Chemical Equilibrium with Applications (CEA).
- This 20N thruster design was referenced as an individual research project at Boeing
- Eligibility of the design process confirmed by a senior engineer at Boeing
Heat Transfer Analysis of a Steel Billet based on Implicit Finite Element Method
- Analyzed the temperature change for a steel billet in a molten salt bath based on the implicit method
- A MATLAB code was developed to present the temperature change over a certain time variation.
- Comparison between MATLAB and Excel codes was researched to find an effective and efficient method in time and cost.
Down Force Calculation for Single and Double Element Airfoil based on CFD and Wind-Tunnel Test
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) of a Multi-Element Rear Car Spoiler, including a variation of down force for different angles of attack.
- Developed a MATLAB analysis code for multi-element geometries resulting in Cp plot variations at different angle of attacks.
- Conducted actual wind-tunnel test to compare with CFD calculation values
An Optimal Wing Structure Design based on Finite Element Method (FEM) and CFD Analysis
- Minimized the weight of the wing box structure and the desig...
