Aircraft Stress Analyst
L3 Communications Platform Integration Division – Waco, TX
07/12-Present
Used a mix of classical hand analysis and FEM techniques to perform structural analysis on several aircraft structures, including webs, shear-ties, caps/stiffeners, and skins & stringers.
•Experienced with foundational structural analysis concepts such as crippling, buckling (flanges, webs, shear-ties, inter-rivet, etc.), skin-stringer shear compression analysis using Melcon-Ensrud method, analysis of frames per NACA/NASA methods, analysis of members under combined loading, plastic bending per the Cozzone method, beam cap lateral instabilities, and local & general instabilities of columns using Johnson & Euler equations.
•Experience with a variety of computer programs, most notably AutoCAD, ProEngineer/Mechanica, PATRAN/NASTRAN, MATLAB, and Mathcad.
•Experience with design support and drawing review, including assuring proper load paths, tolerance stack-up, corrosion protection, and good fatigue design practices.
•Experience with flight test monitoring and exposure to post-processing of flight test data using Matlab.
•Experience writing and reviewing static stress analysis reports.
•MH-60M Blackhawk Modification & Airframe Recertification: Assisted in final analysis and subsequent report on Blackhawk primary structure. Focused on frame webs, shear-ties, and skins & stringers. Monitored flight tests and ran Matlab programs to analyze and present flight test data.
•Full Motion Video Adapter Frame: Supported a 6 month Aeromet project from concept to test article while working in Waco. Analyzed new structure on a camera pod. Focused on analysis of bulkheads and support structures. Authored and ran Matlab programs to automate analysis of bulkhead caps/stiffeners and webs for multiple load conditions and load iterations. Assisted in initial design support and drawing review. Wrote and reviewed report sections on analysis.
