Title: Process Improvement Intern: Perioperative Services– (May 2013-June 2014)
Responsibilities: -Served as an internal consultant to OR nursing, surgery and anesthesiology teams to work on process improvement projects within the OR.
-Facilitated meetings to update Perioperative and Surgical directors on the progress of projects. Also communicated weekly email updates on progress from previous week.
-Led project teams involving nurses, CAs, surgeons etc.
-Conducted observations in the OR to identify current state processes that required improvement, and mapped out both current and future state processes when interventions had been developed.

ED Blood Collection and labeling – Developed a new process for blood collection in the ED to ensure that it matched to the correct patient.
Ambulatory Scheduling – Piloting various scheduling methods in an effort to ensure patients have a convenient & timely post-inpatient discharge follow up appointment. This project also focuses on utilizing scheduling methods in an effort to decrease no-show rates in ambulatory clinics and reducing blind scheduling.
Pre-Admission Unit Workflows – This project involved evaluating and developing new workflows for the surgical pre-admission unit. This was in an effort to reduce wait times for patients, and ensures all pre-surgical consent issues were dealt with prior to the day of surgery.
