Mechanical Design Engineer – Ceramicx Project
Designed a product-test-and-validation system for infrared ceramic heating elements for Irish SME, Ceramicx. This system is to replace and improve upon their current one – most notably by providing a significantly higher product flowrate and output. As the design engineer I liaised with Ceramicx’ engineers to discuss expectations and preliminary ideas for the new machine. I devised a new testing layout based on LEAN manufacturing principles to improve the post-manufacturing process employed by Ceramicx, overcoming previous bottlenecks and subsequently developed first concepts for machine. Using Solidworks, I designed the entire machine chassis and all non-standard components that would be required to the point of manufacturability. I sourced and obtained competitive quotes from various automation component suppliers, eventually securing a 40% discount on essential Bosch equipment.
CRANN – Center for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanomaterials (Trinity College affiliated) November 2014 – February 2015
Research Engineer
Worked as a key member of a commercialization team establishing niche applications for graphene-infused elastomers which can serve as high-strain, high-rate deformation sensors. I conducted a thorough market analysis to identify potential applications for this new technology and subsequently established the practical engineering work which must be done to build working proto-types of the invention, thus increasing its technology readiness level to the point where active R&D can be initiated. I drafted a final proposal and demonstration rig for the G-band project to facilitate future collaboration between TCD and potential industri-al partners.

Intern Engineer
I was assigned a number of individual and team oriented tasks during my first few months as an intern in TCD.
I designed and manufactured bearing shafts and air valves on a CNC lathe for use in a prototype domestic robot.
