Professional Objective: Gain professional knowledge and necessary skills to become a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.
Education:
Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge (2005-2008)
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.35
Relevant Coursework and Projects
• Coursework heavily focused on practical aspects of Mechanical Engineering, including Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Machine Design, Hydraulics, and Pressure Vessel Design.
• Project Member for Tallow Seed Harvester for the LSU Biological Engineering Department. Purpose of the project was to harvest tallow seeds from trees. These seeds would eventually be used to create bio-diesel. The team, consisting of five mechanical engineers, built a hydraulic boom that could be transported on the back of a trailer. My responsibilities included building the machine, keeping track of the budget, completing stress and hydraulic calculations, performing SolidWorks and Ansys modeling, writing reports, and creating PowerPoint presentations.
Work Experience:
Certified Engineer-In-Training (Louisiana) #EI0029067 – April 2008
Recently took the Professional Engineer Exam on October 30, 2015.
Oil States Industries, Houma, LA
October 2011 – October 2015
Mechanical Project Engineer
• Project Engineer for Cranes and Deck Equipment. Deck Equipment mainly included winches, fairleads, and other machinery used for oil rig mooring and tow boat anchor handling. Responsible for all calculations, drawings, and final testing of the machine.
• Used AutoDesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, Ansys Design Modeler and Mechanical Post Processer, KissSoft, MathCad, and Excel to perform calculations and analysis for the machine design. Also validated software results using hand calculations. Responsible for completing the design book of the machinery. Majority of the design books were submitted to the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for review and approval.
• Worked with the fabrication shop, machine shop, and mechanics during machine fabrication and assembly process. Also consulted with these departments throughout the design process to optimize fabrication process. Developed test procedures and supervised the test to verify the machine ready to ship.
• Main Deck projects included Hawser Winches, Drum Winches, and Storage Winches. Hawser Winches were both Electrical and Hydraulic. Worked with the Hydraulic Department to design a closed loop hydraulic circuit. Also worked with the Electrical Department to create technical specifications for the electric motors and associated Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s). Worked the Drum Winch project as the Junior Engineer; worked with the Senior Engineer during the design process. Handled all shop issues during fabrication and wrote and supervised the final acceptance test to approve for shipping.
• Main Crane Projects included a large Lattice Boom and smaller Box Boom Cranes. Worked on structural analysis of the supports, cab, pedestal, and power unit tank and supports using Ansys. Designed diesel and electrical power units. These units included hydraulic reservoirs and diesel tanks. Sized diesel engine based on hydraulic horsepower required. Created specification to order the diesel engine and worked with diesel engine provider. Assisted in the hydraulic and electrical design of the cranes. Responsible for the design book which was required by API 2C. Assisted with any issues during crane fabrication, assembly, and testing. Also responsible for creating drawings and calculations required per the customer.
• Secondary projects included aftermarket and service projects that typically were machinery removed from the rig after years of service to be refurbished. Responsible for modeling the existing machinery and completing calculations and analysis for the design book.
